Book Review| Who Got the Job Ahead of You?

I am glad to have finally gone through the contents of the Fusi Motaung’s new book titled Who Got the Job Ahead of You?.

This is a conversational textbook type of an offering, best consumed in intervals whilst one digests the information. The book is ideal for matriculants, undergraduates and new employees bound to seek new opportunities going forward.

The content, for example, telephone, email etiquette, effective and acceptable communication skills are aids required all round by both job-seekers also by self-employed individuals.

The text is appealing in that it is written from a position of empathy and not from a perspective of privilege and lack of context. It portrays a clear understanding and does not underplay structural, historical, educational, economic and political woes; particularly in our labour landscape and its uniquely South African dynamics.

The book assists with part of the youth unemployment caused by a deficiency in job-seeking skills, character, and tools. Over and above the essential and practical employment seeking tips and skills, find out how a job interview begins way before one enters the interview room.

Fusi Motaung makes a clear and interesting distinction between work and a job, also between an applicant and a candidate. I have gifted my son who is currently doing matric with my copy. I love that the book is practical and Afrocentric. An ideal gift and an empowerment tool for the youth in our families.
