Before I could even peruse through the pages of this book, I knew through the pink colour wrapping it that this book is aimed and directed to women.
Pink is always associated with women power and certainly Divorce Smart-The Girl’s Guide to Divorcing Well is aimed at financially empowering women who are in the process of divorce, those who are thinking of divorcing and those who are already divorced.
Going through a divorce has the potential of leaving one in a very bad emotional, psychological and financial state, especially if one has no tools at her/his disposal to deal with this tragedy when it happens.
Women are often the one’s who have to deal with the burden of having to continue raising children post failed marriages and this means all the decisions that are made during the divorce process must be made with children’s interest at heart.
In Divorce Smart, author Christel Du Toit equips women with the necessary tools to help beat the emotional and most importantly the financial stress before, during and after the divorce.
Du Toit, a divorcee herself does this by using her own experiences through her divorce process by giving women financial tips which should see them emerge emotionally and financially stronger post their marriage.
Du Toit, who is also now a certified financial planner, offers step by step tips to how women should go in as far as claiming maintenance, pension funds and investment funds from their soon to be their husbands.
This is the type of book that definitely gives courage, educate and bring hope to many women that they can still dream post their divorce, like Christel did.

The book has cleverly been divided into three sections, before the divorce, during the divorce, after the divorce.
In every section, a reader is taken through different kinds of decision that she has to make during the divorce process, from financial, emotional and legal decisions.
While this is a without doubt a book that will empower so many women in distress. However, the kinds of examples that Christi uses in this ‘pink nuclear’ can alienate other readers, especially the underprivileged women.
Reading some examples she offers, one can quickly pick she targeting mostly privileged women or that her target market are rich and wealthy women.
Divorced women, who are married to husbands who have no properties or other investments might not relate with a lot of her examples.
However, besides that Du Toit has given women, especially those who are currently in the process of divorcing and even those who are still married a tool that can be useful for them to emerge financially and emotionally strong post their marriage.
One thing for sure is that many married men will not be happy to see their wives reading this book,as one might quickly think that divorce papers are on their way after seeing the wife reading this powerful book.
However, the goal of the author is crystal clear, the point is to empower women to know better when it is time to call it quits.
This is a must read book for every woman. Men can also read the book to know more about what their responsibilities are, especially where children are concerned. I give this read a 7/10 rating.
